Activation best practices

Activation tips

  • Keep your mobile device within 5 feet of the Latch device
  • Keep the app in the foreground through the duration of the firmware upgrade process.
  • Keep all other bluetooth devices disconnected while upgrading the firmware.

Bluetooth Issue

Occasionally, devices experience issues with bluetooth. In general, there are a few next steps to take in order to resolve them.

1. Ensure you have the latest version of the Latch Manager app by checking the App Store based on your device.

2. Restart your phone as this can help clear your cache.

3. Log out of the App and log back in.

4. Firmware upgrade the device.

5. Powercycle the device by following these steps.

Collect all necessary hardware and tools.

To successfully install a Latch R the following tools are necessary:

  • Hardware Installation
    • 12-24 VDC power supply
    • Drill
    • 3/16” drill bit
    • 1 ½” drill bit
    • Wire stripers
    • Wire connectors
    • Electrical tape
    • T20H x 100 Security bit
    • External relay board (not mandatory might be necessary for retrofit installations)
  • Activation
    • 64 bit iOS device
    • Latest version of the Latch Manager App
    • M Series (Generation 2) is capable of wired power and compatible with both doorloops and power through hinges. For more details, reference the Installation Guide

 

To successfully install a Latch M the following tools are necessary:

  • Door Preparation (not necessary if the door is pre-cut in accordance with the appropriate cut sheets by the door manufacturer)
    • Drill
    • Assortment of drill bits. (Refer to the cut sheets or the template in the box, for correct sizes)
  • Hardware installation
    • Phillips head screwdriver
    • 3/32 Allen wrench (To reverse handing if necessary included in Latch M box)
  • Programing
    • 64 bit iOS device
    • Latest version of the Latch Manager App

 

To successfully install a Latch C the following tools are necessary:

  • Door Preparation (not necessary if the door is pre-cut in accordance with the appropriate cut sheets by the door manufacturer)
    • Drill
    • Assortment of drill bits. (Refer to the cut sheets or the template in the box, for correct sizes)
  • Hardware installation
    • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Programing
    • 64 bit iOS device
    • Latest version of the Latch Manager App

To successfully install a Latch C2 the following tools are necessary:

  • Door Preparation (not necessary if the door is pre-cut in accordance with the appropriate cut sheets by the door manufacturer)
    • Drill
    • Assortment of drill bits. (Refer to the cut sheets or the template in the box, for correct sizes)
  • Hardware installation
    • Phillips head screwdrivers (#0 & #2)
  • Programing
    • 64 bit iOS device
    • Latest version of the Latch Manager App

Identify the Latch Administrator for the site

For security reasons your access to the Latch device being installed expires after 24 hours of being activated. If you need access beyond 24 hours, the Latch Administrator will be able to provide the necessary credentials. To avoid installation and activation delays determine the Latch Administrator ahead of time.

Installation best practices

Installation Tips for R

  • Use mounting screws provided where possible
  • If using different mounting screws use #6 flat head screws
  • Drill correct sized hole and necessary depth for wires to avoid mounting difficulties
  • Use care when mounting reader on backplate to avoid damage

 

Installation tips for M

    • Take special care when working on a door with a door bevel. See guide under “Using Latch M cut sheets with a door bevel”
    • Do not over tighten screws. Particularly when working on a hollow door.
    • It is recommended to leave all screws loose until the battery tray is installed. Tighten all screws before installing battery tray. The battery tray should snap in place.
    • Test thumb turn and confirm that it turns easily. If not the door prep might not be correct.
    • Do not use parts from a different box. If you believe a part is defective, contact Latch.

 

Installation tips for Latch C and Latch C2

  • Take special care when working on a door with a door bevel. See guide under “Using Latch C cut sheets with a door bevel”
  • Take care that you have configured the handing mechanically according to the installation instructions.
  • Start the install with the deadbolt in the position identified by the installation instructions.  
  • Do not over tighten screws. Particularly when working on a hollow door.
  • Test thumb turn and confirm that it turns easily. If not the door prep might not be correct.
  • Test unlock and lock prior to closing and securing the door.

Prepare the door and wires prior to Latch device installation

Latch M, C & C2: 

New construction:

If possible it is recommended that the doors are prepared by the door manufacturer using the appropriate cutsheets for Latch M, Latch C, and Latch C2.

Retrofit:

Cutsheets are provided with each Latch M & C device. 



Latch R: 

Use one of the diagrams below to prepare the wiring for your latch R.
