Creating doors

We recommend adding all the door names in your property in advance of installing Latch devices. This means you can add people to the door in advance so that people have access as soon as a device is installed on that door. Once you've created the door names and added all the people, you can assign that door name to a Latch device during installation. Alternatively, you can create door names during installation using Manager App.

1. Create a door

  1. Navigate to the 'Doors' tab in Latch Mission Control
  2. Select 'Create Door'
  3. Name the door
  4. Select the door type
  5. Select 'Create' to finish creating the door
  6. You can now add people to this door

2. Assign the door name to a Latch device during installation

Once you have created the door, it needs to be assigned to a Latch device during installation using the Manager App. Once installation is complete, any people you have added to the door in advance will now have access.

What is a 'Not Installed' door?

Once you have created a door, it needs to be assigned to a Latch device. This occurs during installation of the Latch device. Until then, the door will remain 'uninstalled'. You can still continue to add people to the door.

What are door types?

Door types are important for ordering the doors in your app and ensuring the correct privacy level of people in a building.

  • Building Entrance: Should generally be used for entrances, vestibules, and any other passageway used to gain access from the exterior to the interior of the building
  • Residence:  Should be used for any doors that are direct entrances to someone's private space, apartment, or home. For users marked as “Resident,” the access logs for private doors they have access to will remain private.
  • Service: Should be used for any doors that lead to maintenance areas or areas that are generally closed to residents such as elevator rooms and storage closets
  • Communal: Should be used for doors that lead to entertainment or community areas that are open to the majority of residents such as gyms and lounges

Key Schedules

When making a Key, you can set doors in that Key to be available on certain days at certain hours for anyone that you give that Key to. In one step, everyone gets the same schedule for the same doors.

Adding a Key Schedule to a new key

  1. Make a Key
  2. Select the days and time that you want each door to be accessible using this Key
  3. Update the relevant doors if necessary

Editing a Key Schedule

To change a schedule:

  1. Select the Key in the 'Keys' menu
  2. Select 'Doors'
  3. Edit the schedule for the relevant doors

I can't set a Key Schedule for a door

If Schedules isn't available for a door, you may need to upgrade the firmware on the Latch device. Contact for further guidance.

Door Schedules

Door Schedules offers Portfolio and Full Key Property Managers the ability to schedule their R2 devices to be unlocked on a regular schedule. Additionally, Managers can program their Schedule with specific exception schedules during the year to account for holidays. Optionally, Managers can implement First Unlock to ensure that a door does not switch to unlocked without a user unlocking it first, and/or Early Closure, which allows all users with access to the Door to lock it early.

Setting Up Door Schedules

To set up Door Schedules, first ensure you have at least one R2 device in your building on Firmware Version 4.0.1. You'll need to ensure that every R2 device you want to be enabled with Door Schedules is on this Firmware Version or newer. See this article to learn how to Firmware Upgrade.

To Set Up a Door Schedule:
  1. Navigate to 'Manage Settings' in Latch Mission Control and select 'Schedules' from the drop-down menu.
  2. Select 'Create Schedule.'
  3. Name your Schedule (you can apply the same schedule to as many doors as you'd like, so we recommend naming it for that group of doors, such as "Entrances," "Amenities," or "Offices.")
  4. Optionally choose to enable 'First Unlock' or 'Early Closure' or both.
    • 'First Unlock' means that your schedule will not unlock your Door until someone with access unlocks it. Once they unlock, the door schedule will keep the Door unlocked until the schedule interval ends.
    • 'Early Closure' means that all users that have access to the Door can end the schedule early, and lock the Door prior to the end of a schedule interval. This is great if you want your team to be able to lock the office early.
  5. Select 'Continue.'
  6. Set your 'Primary Schedule' and any 'Exception Schedules.'
    • The 'Primary Schedule' applies each week on a rotating basis. You can choose to not set a schedule for a particular day in which case the Door will remain locked during that entire time. If you enable a schedule for a day, you can create up to 8 schedule intervals. During these intervals, the Door will remain unlocked. You must ensure that your schedules do not overlap.
    • The 'Exception Schedule' applies to a specific day of the year and overwrites the entire daily schedule for that day. You can only have one exception per day, and you can only create exception schedules for days up to one year out. At this time, exception schedules do not roll over year after year, so you will need to update them.
  7. Select 'Continue.'
  8. Select the Doors to add to your Schedule.
    • You can add as many Doors as you'd like, however, a Door can only have one Schedule on it. You can also change the Door Schedule by navigating to the Door page and choosing the Schedule there.
  9. Select 'Complete.'
  10. Once the Door has been updated, the Schedule will be applied.

Updating the Door After Creating a Door Schedule

If the Door is connected to the internet via WiFi, Ethernet, Hub, or Intercom, the Door will automatically update. Note that doors can take up to 30 minutes to update based on traffic.

If the Door is not connected to the internet, you or someone else will need to update the Door. See this article to learn how to update your doors.

Deleting a door

You can only delete a door if it hasn't been assigned to a Latch device yet and doesn't have any access added to it. If the door has already been assigned to a Latch device, you need to deactivate the Latch device first, revoke all access and then contact to assist with deleting the door.

How to delete a door

  1. Ensure any Latch devices have been deactivated from the door
  2. Remove any people who have access to the door
  3. Navigate to the 'Doors' tab
  4. Select the door you want to delete
  5. Select 'Remove Door'

Door updates

Doors without an internet connection require an update whenever you:

  1. Revoke someone's access
  2. Activate a Keycard

Doors are automatically updated whenever someone unlocks a door for the first time with the app (during the “setting up” process). You may also intervene and update the doors yourself with the Latch apps:
